Performs the daily activities in the installation, repair, and maintenance of street lighting systems for the City.
Environmental Factors
Position functions primarily outdoors with exposure to all weather and traffic conditions, moving vehicles and equipment; electrical hazards, noise, dust, dirt, and pollen; may have exposure to open manholes and street excavations with cave-in potential; safety equipment includes vest, hard hat, face mask, gloves, apron, harness, safety shoes, goggles, and ear protection.

Full-Time; Regular; Non-Exempt; Union-represented position
High School Diploma or GED AND four (4) years of experience in an electrical trade operating, maintaining, and/or servicing electrical systems is required. Completion of an electrical apprenticeship, or equivalent to an Associate Degree in Electronic Technology, or related field, may be preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
Licenses/Certification(s)
Valid driver's license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Las Cruces policies. Journeyman Electrician license (JE-98) required. Class B commercial driver's license and International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Certification in Work Zone must be obtained within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
Knowledge of: methods and practices for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of wiring, electrical devices, and related systems; occupational and environmental safety and health hazards, and safety practices; traffic control and safety requirements; construction techniques pertaining to street lighting; Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; National Electrical Code;; current principles of record keeping and records management; principles and practices of effective research methods and data analysis, customer service, and problem resolution techniques; occupational and environmental safety and health hazards, and safety practices; safe and effective use and maintenance of related tools, materials, and equipment; current methods and standards for preparing effective business correspondence; correct English usage, grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; business and personal computers and related software applications; City organization, operations, policies, and procedures to effectively perform the required functions and duties of the position.
